*DBQ on the 1920s must be 5 paragraphs with an introduction and a conclusion paragraph.  The three middle paragraphs should use the documents to answer the thesis question.  Include information from your notes and handouts to add to the essay.

This week - Prohibition & Intolerance in the 1920s

Here's what is going on this week in class:

Homework Reading Assignment:

View several of the cartoons and photographs on the link below - also read over 1 of the selected readings at the bottom of the page.  The page will give you information on Prohibition.  This must be completed by Friday - on Friday you will have some questions dealing with Prohibition.

Week of 11/25 - 11/27

This week we will continue to explore the 1920's.

For all the students that went on the Washington D.C. trip - I hope you had a great and interesting time.  We were lucky to see the wreath ceremony and the changing of the guard.  If you went into the room below the memorial amphitheater - it was only the third time it was opened to the public in 50 years!!  We will have another trip to Washington later in the year, so if you missed this trip, or want to see other cool things make sure you sign up for it in the spring.



Here is your assignment - make sure you complete it by Wednesday 11/27.

Monday - Test on WW1 Unit

Next up - 1920's


The 1920's was a time of tremendous change in America - from flappers, prohibition, the red scare, the Harlem Renaissance, the rise of the KKK, new inventions and innovations, organized crime and finally the great collapse in 1929.  There are many similarities between the 1920's and the present.  The 1920's Unit will last about 2-3 weeks.

Marking Period 2: Extra Credit

First Extra Credit Assignment:

This is open to everyone in all my US2 classes.  Go and see the film  12 Years A Slave - which is based on Solomon Northup's account of his experiences as a slave.  Simply bring me the ticket stub and I will ask you one simple question about the film.  If you do this you will receive an extra 15 points towards your grade. 

I know this falls within the US1 curriculum, but this film is so good that everyone, and I mean everyone should see it!  It is completely voluntary, but be forewarned - this film is very violent, brutally denigrating, has a bit of nudity and will leave you stunned.  But this is the best film about slavery and just how horrific it actually was in the South.
